Antique Original 1831 Fashion Plate Print - The Ladies Museum Publication Illustration - Walking Dress - Carriage Dress - London England - Hand Colored - French Fashion - Localization Marketing

The Ladies Museum, Which Includes Many Colored Fashion Plates And Was Published Under The Patronage Of Her Royal Highness The Duchess Of Kent, Was Incorporated In July 1832 With The Lady's Magazine To Form The Lady's Magazine And Museum Of The Belles Lettres. It Seems To Have Been A Significant Repository Of Fashion, Literature, And Possibly Music, Considering That Several Volumes Contain Music With Separate Pagination And Title Pages. The Initial Publication Date For The Series Titled "The Ladies' Museum" Or "Lady's Monthly Museum" Was In 1803, And It Continued To Influence And Reflect Women's Fashion And Interests Up To At Least 1831 In Its Various Forms.

The Walking Dress Is Practical Yet Stylish, Suitable For The Day's Activities, And Features A Belted Waist, Puffed Sleeves, And A Full Skirt, Which May Have Been Supported By Petticoats Or A Small Crinoline. Accessories Include A Bonnet With Ribbons And Possibly Floral Decorations, Gloves, And Flat Shoes.

The Carriage Dress Appears To Be A More Formal Outfit, Likely Made Of A Richer Fabric With A Fuller Skirt. The Woman's Hat Is Large And Elaborately Decorated, Indicating That The Look Is Intended For An Occasion Where She Might Be Seen In Public But Remain Mostly Seated, Such As During A Carriage Ride.

Both Styles Reflect The Early Victorian Fashion's Emphasis On A Small Waist Contrasted With Wide Sleeves And Full Skirts. The Attention To Detail, From The Patterns On The Dresses To The Accessories, Is Notable And Provides Insight Into The Aesthetics And Social Norms Of Women's Fashion During This Era.
