This 1834 Illustration Depicts Gaveston’s Cross, A Monument On Blacklow Hill Near Guy’s Cliff In Warwickshire, England. The Cross Marks The Site Where Piers Gaveston, The Close Favorite Of King Edward II, Was Executed In 1312 By Rebel Barons Led By The Earl Of Warwick. Gaveston’s Downfall Resulted From Political Rivalries And Accusations Of Excessive Influence Over The King. The Monument, Featuring A Stepped Base And A Stone Cross, Was Erected In 1823 To Commemorate The Event.
