This 1913 Clipping Highlights Aero-Ferry Service Across Coos Bay, Washington, As Began Operation Under Gorst & King Of North Bend, Oregon, Using A Martin Hydroplane. The Aircraft Had Previously Been Tested At Balboa Bay, Successfully Lifting 620 Pounds Of Passengers For 15 Minutes. Despite Accommodating Four People In Tests, The Service Limited Capacity To Two Passengers. Aviator E. W. Steele Piloted The Machine, Sitting In The Middle Seat With Passengers On Either Side. The Aircraft’s Side Planes Allowed For Weight Adjustments Without Additional Ballast. This Marks An Early Example Of Commercial Aviation Utilizing Hydroplanes For Regional Transportation In 1913.
