This 1913 Clipping Highlights L. A. Vilas, A Licensed Pilot, Conducted Test Flights Of His New Curtiss Flying Boat In Hammondsport, New York, On June 4, 1913. One Flight Covered 44 Miles Round Trip Over Lake Keuka To Penn Yan. Vilas, A Known Sportsman And Motorboat Racer, Planned To Fly The Aircraft To New York For Demonstrations. The Hull Differed From Harold F. Mccormick’s Model, Featuring A Wider Beam, Greater Depth, And Stronger Construction. The Aircraft Measured 24 Feet In Length, With A 36-Foot Wingspan. Built With Planked Wood And Marine Glue, It Featured A 40-Gallon Fuel Capacity. This Flight Marked A Significant Development In Early American Aviation And The Evolution Of Flying Boats.
