This 1978 Clipping Highlights A Painting Of A Young Mao Tse-Tung That Was Mistakenly Hung In The Vatican Press Room, Near A Portrait Of Pope Paul VI. Vatican Officials Believed The Image Depicted A Priest Due To The Subject's Attire. The Painting Was A Gift And Was Displayed Without Verification. Once Identified As Mao, The Vatican Chose Not To Remove It But Prohibited Photography. The Work Was Created By Luigi Carnevali, Confirmed By His Son Lanfranco.
